I joined the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau team as the Step Up Director 13 years ago. The chance to help the youth of the city is what caught my attention. Being part of the Youth Bureau allows me to bring hope to a group of young men who would otherwise get looked over. The 23 years of working at the New York School for the Deaf has helped me to understand the importance of communication, something I enjoy teaching to the youth. What I enjoy most about working with the Youth Bureau is being able to work with an Executive Director which shares the common goal to ensure that quality programs are delivered to the youth of Mount Vernon. In the past two years we have been able have Job Readiness Academies, something that not only prepared a group of young men to gain employment, by teaching them the value of being mature and responsible with a willingness to learn something new every day. But it has also made them aware of their potential, to do and be anything they work hard for.
I enjoy taking pictures and writing novels, a skill I use to reach the youth.
On my spare time, I enjoy being a father, and improving my novel writing skills.
