Mount Vernon Man Charged with Weapons Crimes

Mount Vernon Police have arrested Reynard Smith III, 20 years old, of Mount Vernon, in relation to several violent crimes.
On Thursday May 4, 2023 at about 7:45 AM, Mount Vernon Police received a report of a man threatening a victim with a knife in the area of South 5th Av and West 3rd St. Officers arrived in the area and located Reynard Smith III, armed with a large kitchen knife. Smith was transported to Mount Vernon Police HQ for further investigation.
Shortly after 8 AM, Smith was identified as the suspect in the earlier call. It was also determined that he was the suspect in a series of other knife related incidents, including the recent attempted robbery of a man in the area of 36 West 5th Street, that left a Yonkers man injured. In total, Smith was charged in connection with four incidents, from April 26, May 1, May 2, and May 4.
Smith who has two prior arrests for Robbery has been charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rdDegree, two counts of Attempted Assault 1st Degree, two counts of Attempted Robbery 1st Degree, two counts of Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree, and Assault 2nd Degree, all felonies. In addition, Smith was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and two counts of Menacing 2nd Degree. Smith was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court and remanded to the Westchester County Department of Corrections.
