Assessment
The Assessor’s Department prepares an assessment roll of all real property, vacant and improved, within the City, establishing the condition, value and taxable status of each parcel of property each year.

Buildings
The Mount Vernon Department of Buildings is the watchdog of the city’s existing housing stock; monitoring new building conditions and new building construction activity as well as overseeing the maintenance of older multi-family structures.

Civil Service
The Department of Civil Service maintains all civil service employee records for City Hall, Mount Vernon Public Library, Mount Vernon Housing Authority and the Board of Education.

Consumer Protection
The Office of Consumer Affairs inspects and tests weighing and measuring devices used commercially, inspects and tests packaged commodities, regulates commercial weighing and measuring practices used by vendors, and investigates consumer and business complaints

Fire
The Fire Department has the primary task of providing adequate fire protection and fire extinguishment capability, initiating life rescue, rendering emergency medical assistance, controlling hazardous material situations, and providing related emergency services.

The Human Resources Department in collaboration with the Civil Service Commission strives to provide assistance and information to all City employees as well as Mount Vernon residents.

Industrial Development Agency (IDA)
The Mount Vernon Industrial Development Agency (MVIDA) is a public benefit corporation authorized by the State of New York. The mission of the Agency is to promote, develop, and assist businesses seeking medium- to long-term financial assistance for eligible projects in the areas of manufacturing, warehousing/distribution, and mixed-use developments such as housing and retail facilities in the City of Mount Vernon.

Law
The Department of Law, headed by the City’s Corporation Counsel, supervises and directs the legal affairs of the City.

Management Services
The Department of Management Services is the hub of the City's computer operations. The department coordinates the planning and implementation of the city's data processing system with respect to the potential computer-based needs of the government in order to promote increased efficiency and economy.

The Mount Vernon Department of Recreation has been providing quality recreational programming for Mount Vernon residents for over 70 years.

Urban Renewal Agency (URA)
The Mount Vernon Urban Renewal Agency (MVURA) is responsible for the administration and implementation of projects funded with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Water Department
The Board of Water Supply owns and maintains approximately 105 miles of mains and 1,140 fire hydrants. Its primary responsibility is to provide an adequate supply of safe, potable water for domestic, industrial, and fire-fighting purposes.
